Learn About Window Shutters

When redecorating a home, when it comes to the window decor, curtains and blinds are what generally comes to mind.  The use of window shutters is often overlooked, and this is sometimes a great shame – shutters can enhance a room dramatically, and if they are picked well, they can create a striking gaze-holding centerpiece to your room.

If you have decided to use shutters in your room, it is important to think about two things:

The first is the actual functionality of the shutters.  As well as being eye catching, they are also of course a functional part of the room.  They can keep bright light out in the daytime and ensure your privacy at night.

Have a think about the room you’ll be placing them in – if they’re for a living room, the amount of light that can seep through any gaps in the shutter may be irrelevant (so long as the main part of the sun’s glare is kept out).  However, if you are using them in the bedroom, it is absolutely essential that they are able to block out as much sunlight as possible.  There’s nothing worse than picking shutters that just don’t work and let too much light through in the morning – unless you like being woken up at 5 AM during the summer! (Depending on where in the world you live of course.)

The second major thing to look into is the actual style of the shutters.  There is such a large range now on the market that you should be able to find a shutter to suit any room – they’re made from fabric, wood, glass (even plastic is a potential, but really, for style’s sake, plastic shutters should only be used in the kitchen).

If you shop online it is easy to find inexpensive shutters, but you should also put some effort into checking that they are of a quality brand that will last you for years.  Many manufacturers now offer warranties, so if at all possible try to find a product that is guaranteed for at least a few years, which will enable you to feel comfortable that your purchase will last.

If done correctly, the addition of window shutters to a room really can add some elegance, and next time you are redecorating, their addition to your home may just be extra touch you are looking for.

Vinyl Plantation Shutters

For a sturdier, weatherproof choice of window covering, vinyl plantation shutters are a practical way to both beautify and protect your windows. They offer a more elegant and durable way to dress windows than the standard vinyl blinds, which bring some privacy but not the same level of security for the inside of the house.

Generally, vinyl plantation shutters are thicker than regular blinds or shades and provide maximum flexibility, ventilation, insulation, light control and privacy. They come in a variety of materials, including hardwood, vinyl, bamboo and PolyDesign.

One of the best features of vinyl plantations shutters is an ability to keep rain and other inclement weather out, let in fresh breezes or keep heat circulation in side the house. The shutters achieve this effect by use of louvers, parallel slats that move up or down to allow for air and light adjustments.

In order to choose the louvers that are right for your shutters, it will be important to consider the size of your window and what kind of function the shutter will have in your home. Are you choosing vinyl plantation shutters for their beautiful, dramatic effect, or are you making the choice for the control of air, heat and light?

Larger windows (and bigger slats) naturally focus the eye on the view outside the window as the louver is being manipulated. Smaller louvers will force attention to the design of the shutter first before any view comes into focus.

Because this kind of shutter is called a vinyl “plantation” shutter, many buyers have the inclination to fling open the shutters against the interior wall as a decorative effect, similarly to those what have been seen in older plantation homes in the South. With the simple louver feature, these shutters are not designed for resting against a wall. The rotation mechanism of the louver is designed to give all the light necessary and air necessary for the house. These shutters are designed to cover an opening – one panel for each vertical division in your window.

Most vinyl plantation shutters are easily self-installed. They can be cleaned using a damp cloth or sponge or a regular feather duster. You can expect to pay between $45 and $65 for shutters on the low end. High-end shutters can cost between about $160 to $200, depending on the material used and the designer or manufacturer. Professionals can usually install blinds for you for about $2 to $3 per square foot.

11.3.09

Panel Shutters

Panel shutters are one of the least costly ways to protect a home from hurricane damage. At a cost of only $4-$6 per square foot, panel shutters are extremely strong, durable, and provide terrific protection from the onslaught of tropical storms and hurricanes. For those who live in hurricane and tropical storm prone areas, panel hurricane shutters are an economical solution that will provide protection for window openings and doorways in the face of violent storms.

Available in metal, plastic, or wood, panel hurricane shutters are the choice of many homeowners, particularly as they are the least expensive permanent shutter system available. Panel shutters have the added bonus of being removable, so they do not detract from the look of a home when not being used. Although panel hurricane shutters that have been removed from a home when not needed for protection will require storage, they are often made of corrugated material and stack together neatly, thus taking up little storage space. Bulkier than other systems, panel shutters often require more than one person to hang them and corrugated metal panels can have sharp edges, so extra care must be taken in handling them, particularly in high wind situations.

Panel shutters can be attached either to the home permanently by being hung on hinges beside the windows to be swung shut, then latched, or via tracks where they generally slide into the upper track and are attached to the bottom track with wing nuts.  Hurricane panel shutters may also be attached directly to the exterior wall of the home without tracks. This is done by installing concrete anchors and truss screws with which to attach the panel shutters.  Hurricane panel tracks can be purchased in different finishes. These panel hurricane shutters are easily removed from their track so that they can be stored when they are not needed.

Functionality aside, panel shutters are also available in wood, and not only do wood panel shutters protect a home, they add to the eye appeal with pleasing styles from the traditional open louvered wood shutter, to the charming cottage style shutters, to raised panel shutters. A set of wooden panel shutters around a window can dress it up in a very attractive manner. Distinctly stylish, tongue and groove panels, bead-board panels, or raised panel shutters are truly an attractive way to protect a home.

When purchasing any panel shutters for hurricane protection, be sure to ask for information on whether or not they passed the building code testing for the particular area in which they will be installed. Many panel hurricane shutters are tested to perform in wind zones up to 150 miles an hour.

For strict functionality, metal panel hurricane shutters offer unbeatable protection from inclement weather. Wood panel shutters, however, give the homeowner a choice of creating an attractive and distinctive look for their home as well as offering protection.  While hurricane-proof glass is gaining popularity in newer buildings, it may not be a cost efficient answer for every homeowner. Panel hurricane shutters offer an affordable alternative to the homeowner who is concerned with making their homes as safe as possible for the least amount of money.

A Guide to Can Lighting for Beginners

Can lighting is used when there is a need for recessed lights. If it is not possible to install a hanging light at home or in the office, a recessed can light is a good alternative. Can lights are also used when spotlights are needed.

Some popular places to install recessed lights are living rooms and kitchens, and some homeowners also have used them in bathrooms. Some of the styles available will only project in a straight downward direction, but there are also models that can be pointed in different directions. These are often used to point the light towards an area in the room that you want to highlight and draw attention to, or to create a desired mood. Because recessed lights often include a dimmer switch, these lights are adjustable and can be used to create a bright light or a specific mood.

Different Types of Can Lighting

The two varieties available for homeowners are non-insulated and insulated recessed can lights. The type you need depends on where you are planning to install the lights. Insulated can lights have features that make it possible for the heat from the bulb to evaporate, and this makes them safe to install in the ceiling near the insulation. With the non-insulated variety, you have to leave some space around the light so it does not over heat its surroundings. If you have a ceiling that has not been insulated, this type of can lighting can be used. If you are using the lights in the ceiling near the ceiling insulation, make sure that they are labeled to be safe for this purpose.

Where to Place Recessed Can Lights

With can lighting, you can create the feeling of more light and space in even a small room. One of the advantages of these lights is that they can make any room look more spacious and brighter. As you install them, make sure that they point towards the parts of the room you want to draw attention, or any specific pieces of furniture that you want to focus on. The lights can point towards a beautiful piece of furniture or a piece of artwork to make sure these are the first thing that gets noticed when someone enters the room. Never place several lights too close to each other, as this can look unattractive and destroy the mood in the room.

These types of fixtures are also very useful as reading lights, and can be fixed above a working desk or a writing table. You might want to create a reading corner in the living room or the TV room, and place recessed can lighting right above a chair or a table in that part of the room.

Solar Christmas Lights

The Christmas Holidays are such fun and offer so many opportunities for visiting with family and friends.  Everyone enjoys a well decorated home and each year it seems more and more decorating takes place.  Outside lighting has become extremely important during the holidays to give a home a festive look and welcome guests.  More and more people are making the exterior of their home a focal point for all to see.

Solar Christmas Lights are a wonderful solution to being energy efficient.  Even though most people enjoy the decorations that abound during the Holiday Season there is no way to justify the energy that can be wasted.  When lights pop up on lawns, trees, doors, roof tops and sidewalks the power used can really soar.  Solar lighting allows the decorations to be cost effective, energy efficient and not waste our precious energy resources.  All of  a sudden even more lights can be added to the Holiday plans with no guilt to deal with!

The concept of adding decorative lights at Christmas is fun but can get a little complicated to manage.  They have to be either be turned on and off manually or to be set up on timers to come on and off automatically.  The manual method is a nightmare to deal with and often becomes a nuisance instead of a pleasurable experience.  Many lovely occasions can be marred by one person having to be the person in charge of the lights.  Timers work but they can be extremely difficult to set up correctly. With solar lights they simply come on and off with no effort.

When the lights are hauled out for the holidays there always seems to be a maze of cords to deal with.  It is often difficult to figure out how to string one into another without overloading a circuit or tripping a guest on the unsightly cords that must be strung back and forth to accommodate the lights.  Even though lights are lovely after dark there are some pretty unsightly cords during the day to deal with.   Solar lighting eliminates the need for any of the mess and makes the decorations go up so much easier.

Solar Christmas lights can be purchased and reused year after year making them a good investment as well as an energy efficient item to own.  They can also be used in places that were not always possible to access with conventional lighting.  Simply make certain the solar panel has access to direct sunlight and they are very easy to use for Christmas lights.

Whether you choose shop online for your new solar lights or go to your local Home Depot, you’ll find that you made a smart decision with this purchase which can save you on electricity (and be healthy for the environment) for many years to come.

To Accentuate a Room’s Decor Try a Modern Chandelier

A modern chandelier can help accentuate a room’s decor. Today’s versions are not much different from those more traditional lighting fixtures. They can be fashion with some of the same materials, such as crystal, glass or wood. Some newer products use chrome or steel in the framework.

Though more contemporary product may use some of the same materials, they are typically less ornate. Clean lines of a geometrically shaped chrome frame, combined with softer round paper shades are common looks for such pieces. Other products consist of various metals and take many unusual twists or turns, for a very unique look that draws attention to a seating area or dining room table.

There are pieces made into the shape of one large flower, with a hint of color at the base. A fixture like this is simple, yet elegant. Combined with a table ornament of bamboo on a plain wooden or steel table with straight lines, it can really enhance the space by adding a touch of class.

Fixtures can consist of many small lights lined in a row, with glass, paper or plastic shades. Others may be assembled in a round pattern, but still contain many elements of contemporary design. Those that contain lights resting on a steel or glass base are ultra modern and are very popular in home decor. Different versions consist of a base that is slightly curved, either upward or downward, for a design element that adds some sleek curves.

Colors are not uncommon in modern lighting fixtures. Some consist of pale hues that suggest a hint of color, while others make a bolder statement with a bright color or a combination of many. Typically, the color is added to the shade or shades, as the bases are made of a shiny metal like chrome or steel.

Contemporary Italian products use quite a bit of glass or crystal, but are fashioned in more unique ways. Some consist of many small colored beads. Others may be fashioned into a single flower. For a more authentic Mediterranean look, there are pieces that contain several small bulbs in a round pattern, which appear to be connected by bronze vines and have grape leaves attached.

Regardless of the type of lighting you choose, your budget and the room’s decor are important considerations in finding the right model. Prices can range from fifty to thousands of dollars, depending on where the items are purchased. Some lighting stores carry a variety of contemporary options. Stores like IKEA, which carry many home decor items with a more modern theme also carry many choices. They carry products in a variety of price ranges as well. There is a modern chandelier for your space that will also fit your budget.

Tips on Choosing the Right Garden Light

There are many factors to consider when trying to decide what kind of garden light to choose for your garden.  Among these factors are the visual effects you want to create, the appearance of the light features themselves, how much money you are willing to spend, the type of power source you want for your lights and the effectiveness of the light source you choose.

If you use your garden for special events or occasions such as dinner parties or romantic evenings, and are looking for special light fixtures that will create a special mood or atmosphere for your garden, perhaps you would prefer a softer more subdued type of lighting such as garden torches, a fixture that resembles Greek torches in shape.  Alternatively, if your garden is fairly small there are fixtures designed just for smaller garden settings called beauty lights made to light up sections of your garden or patio.

If you were looking for garden lights that provide more illumination to provide protection at night and keep prospective burglars away, perhaps flood lights would be more appropriate.  These round or angular lights project bright beams of white light around your garden to maintain it well lit during the night for good security.  They also provide sufficient lighting for protection against accidents such as tripping or falling during evening walks in your garden.

Whether you are looking for lights to enhance the beauty of your garden, for convenience and safety when walking in the evenings or for protection against intrusion into your property, there are all kinds of lights available to suit your taste along with the option of choosing the type of power source more conducive to your need.  Electric lighting is more powerful, but you will need to have an electric power source close by or run wires to an electric source to power the lights.  Battery operated lights do not need wire and are less bright, but you will need to have the batteries changed periodically.  Solar lights do not require either wires or batteries.  This type lighting uses the sun to store its energy during daylight hours, and then lights up at night.  As solar lighting is a more economical light source, more people have been choosing this option to save money.

Needless to say, using outside lights in your garden is a wise choice for more reasons than one.  In addition, with the wide selection of light types and fixtures to choose from you need not worry about not finding what you need.  There are lights in all shapes, sizes, designs, colors, and brands.  By contacting a professional dealer and designer near you, you can receive the help you need to choose wisely and efficiently at a price you can afford.

Unique Besa Lighting Fixtures

The lighting used within a residential space can set a mood and a specific ambiance immediately.  While recessed lighting has been the typical choice found in museums and other mosaic buildings, the Besa and pendant light are unique and offer contemporary and sensible lighting solutions for any interior design.  Rather than being recessed into the ceiling, Besa lighting brings the glow to a lower level and is suspended from chains or rods.  No longer conform to the norm, and compliment your home with customized lighting that will impress all of your family, friends and guests.

Besa lighting comes in many different designs and fixtures including pendants, wall sconces, flush mounts, and vanity lighting.  This stylish version of the pendant light surrounded by quality and original glass makes these fixtures a must-have.  While home improvement stores do sell Besa light fixtures, many smart consumers have chosen to purchase these fixtures at a fraction of the price through online retailers.  Knowing the design you are aiming to compliment, and the mood you are focused on setting, will allow homeowners to achieve that special look they are shooting for without breaking their wallet.

The pendant Besa light comes in adjustable, mini and midi fixtures.  These versions of luminaries are decorated with various hardware including bronze, silver and gold and accented by a unique stained glass.  The glass can be as plain as white frost or as detailed as a marble staining.  Pendants can be suspended individually or in sets of three or more depending on the lighting affect desired and the quantity of lighting needed.

Aside from the ever-popular pendant lighting, for those looking for a more isolated lighting the indoor wall sconce could be the right choice.  Indoor sconces are mounted to the wall and provide a glow from a bulb, which is covered by the glass Besa lighting.  Because this glass typically has swirls or other decorative patterns, the lighting affect will be unique compared to the typical wall sconce.  Besa wall sconces can be used in indoor and outdoor applications depending on the manufacturer and light itself.

Semi-flush mount resemble the look of an upside down champagne glass and create their own unique ambiance.  From the amber cloud design to the garnet or crimson design, your room can be littered with numerous shades of light.  Use the lighting to highlight focal points throughout the room, or use the lighting as a focal point in and of itself.

Although it is one of the last decorating areas considered when designing your home, residential light decor is very important.  While enough light is needed to function during all hours of the day, a pleasing display is also desired by homeowners who are interior design minded.  Make your home unique with the several patterns and Besa lighting fixtures offered on the market.

A Pool Table Light Will Make Your Game!

You can find Tiffany-style lights, lights with many different kinds of logos, and pendant lights, to name just a few.  Whether you think of it as personal preference, a way to express your individuality, or have a theme in the room, which you would like to complement, there is a pool table light for you.

On the practical side, no matter how long or how often you play pool, it can create an immense strain on your eyes.  The close work of lining up balls, aiming, and shooting, can be bothersome to your vision.  If you want to get the most from your game without resorting to the glare from standard lighting, pool table lights are the ideal solution.  Your eyesight will not suffer, even if you play your favorite game every night.

Standard lights, or less than adequate light, can have a negative impact on your game.  If players cannot see properly, it is very easy to make mistakes.  You and all of your friends can enjoy peak performance, each and every time, when you have lighting made especially for this purpose.  If your pool game has ever been ruined because you could not see very well, or had a glaring light interrupt your vision, you already know how important this is.  Pool lights are designed to provide the correct amount of light for a fun, competitive game.

Lighting also goes a long way in creating atmosphere.  Creating the perfect atmosphere for your poolroom is simple when you choose the right kind of light.  This is where the huge variety of lighting comes in.  No matter what your own personal sense of style may consist of, you can find an appropriate style light.  You might be interested in displaying the name or logo of your favorite sports team, have a stained glass effect, or classic pendant lighting with two, three, or more pendants.  You might have a fully decorated poolroom in your own home, or a plain room with nothing else in it but a pool table.  Either way, there is a design, style, and size to make the atmosphere perfect for everyone’s favorite indoor sport.

While finding the right light to coordinate with any theme is easy, it is also a great way to begin a brand-new theme.  You may be moving into a new home, or remodeling your home or garage.  If pool is on your list of favorite activities, designing a room for it is quite simple.  When you start with a table, and the light that you like the most, everything else will fall into place.  All you will need to do is gather all of your friends together, and be sure you have plenty of snacks on hand.

Tiffany Lamps History and Collecting

Tiffany Lamps date from the late Victorian and Edwardian periods and feature stained-glass shades. While for over a century it was thought that the first Tiffany lamp was created by Louis Comfort Tiffany in 1895, it is now recognized that one Clara Driscoll was the creative genius behind most of the products of Tiffany studios. They were one product of the many items created by Tiffany Studios from 1878 to 1933.

Most Tiffany lamps fall into one of seven varieties: Favrile, Flowered Cone, Flowered Globe Lamps, Geometric, Irregular Upper and Lower Border, and Transition to Flowers. The Favrile category means handcrafted, and refers to the first lamps Tiffany made under his label. The Transition to Flowers group is subdivided into Flowered Cone and Flowered Globe lamps. These lamps were crafted with a nature or botanical theme, featuring flowers, leaves, insects, feathers, and the like, the difference between the two sub-groups being the shape of the shade itself. The Geometric variety is self-explanatory, featuring triangles, rectangles, and other shapes instead of natural items as a motif. The Irregular Border lamps feature an irregular edge that mimics natural vegetative branching.

Lamps are produced using a process referred to as the Copper Foil Method. A pattern for the pieces of glass are laid out on a heavy sheet of cardboard, and the glass is cut. Next, the pieces are cleaned and copper applied to their edges, so they can be soldered together.

There are three kinds of products on the market today for those interested in Tiffany or Tiffany-style lamps: Originals, reproductions, and outright fakes. Originals are a satisfying and beautiful piece of history, if somewhat pricey, there are many aesthetically pleasing reproductions on the market, outright fakes should be avoided like the plague, as their sole purpose is to bilk the purchaser out of far more money than they are really worth. Check for the following indicators if you think you are looking at an authentic Tiffany lamp: Check the base for patina. Patina is not an absolute indicator of authenticity and age, but lack of patina is a warning sign and attempts to fake patina are blazing warning sign that reads “Fake: Stay Away!” Genuine Tiffany lamps are handcrafted; you can easily learn to recognize the look of Favrile glass after examining a few original pieces. Genuine lamps will have a floral design that is either placed on the base or all over the lamp. Considering the price that a genuine Tiffany will bring, it would be very wise and well worth any cost to have an expert appraise any prospective purchases.

If you cannot afford an original Tiffany Lamp (and make no mistake, they are pricey, running into the hundreds of thousands of dollars for original pieces!), then there are many artful reproductions on the market. Just be sure to shop around and get your money’s worth. Caveat emptor!

Things to Consider When Installing an Outdoor Sconce

Choosing outdoor lighting for your home requires a little bit of investigation and awareness.  Your front entrance can probably benefit of an outdoor sconce.  A sconce is simply a wall-mounted fixture.  Most homes have at least one, and they are often colloquially termed porch lights.  Given the appropriate considerations, they can add character and charm to your home, and will at a minimum provide security for nighttime visitors and present a deterrent to nighttime prowlers and miscreants.   The following considerations will assist you in determining an appropriate fixture for your situation and purposes.

You want to consider the condition of the proposed lighting installation when determining the specific fixture for your specific situation.  Eaves and overhangs that provide completely adequate protection from the elements may warrant the use of fixtures suitable for damp locations, rather than necessitating those that are weatherproof or rain-tight.  This distinction is important both to ensure an adequate installation that will last for a considerable length of time and to assure compliance with municipal requirements that are predominantly based on the National Electrical Code.  Given the option, many times it will be more cost effective and more aesthetically compliant through variety of selection.  You can find these fixtures through their labeling within the fine print among the packaging information.  A sales representative from your local electrical supply house, home improvement retailer, or online merchant should be able to assist you in making a proper choice.

Always be sure to look for an authentic seal from an underwriter, the likes of Underwriters Laboratories, commonly UL, or Canadian Standards Association, CSA, here in North America.  These are legally required testing certifications that will in most cases be required to adhere even to a general insurance policy of the property.  Try to go with materials that are long lasting, something with a weather resistant coating.  If possible, find a sconce fixture manufactured by a brand with a solid reputation.  Merchants you trust or that have a solid standing locally and within your circle should get a priority initial investigation.

All manner of styles, from contemporary to antique, are available in the right type for your outdoor needs.  Wrought iron effects can add charm to Victorian style homes and sculpted pieces add effect and contrast for more eclectic and inventive veneers.  Installing new lights can be a breeze in existing locations, where the wiring is safe and updated recently enough.  Grounding is a very important safety facet of electrical wiring and should be attached and continuous, most especially where metal housings and parts to the exposed light are metallic in nature.  An electrical box is necessary at every attachment point for any light you ever install.  On stepped siding such as cedar clapboards or vinyl courses, a siding block may need to be employed to plumb the outdoor sconce.  If you are unsure of anything, do not hesitate to have a professional install it for you.

Outdoor lighting has a way of making the outdoors a nicer place to be in the evening.  There is something extra special about a nicely lit garden, especially at night.  When you choose strings of lights, lanterns, or any other style, you are making an individual choice that everyone will love.  You also have the option of choosing between clear lights for a natural look, or colored lights to make a more dramatic appearance.  As soon as all of your friends and neighbors see the classic, yet modern, touch that you have added to your brand-new garden, it will quickly become their favorite place, too.  You will be surprised with the difference lighting can make.  It truly is the easiest, most inexpensive way to turn a garden into an atmosphere of serenity and beauty.

Getting The Right Wall Lamp For Your Home

There are a few things to take into consideration when you buy wall lamps for your room.  For one, you of course want to get something that is in your budget. That is not at all hard to do as there is a large variety on the market and with a bit of looking, you can always find something decorative and yet affordable.  You should make sure that whatever style of wall lighting you get matches with the style and color scheme of the existing room furniture.  And you should make sure that you get the right lighting for your needs.

If you want a reading lamp for beside your bed, then getting a swivel wall lamp is a good idea and there are some affordable ones on the market.  You can get a traditional one from Home Depot with either ivory, gold, sage, red or white lamp shade for only $60.  The base is brushed steel; the white one has a white base.  You can also get pivoting or arch-medium reading lamps to put up on your wall that cost only $70 each; once again, there are a number of color schemes to chose from.

For those who appreciate warm, natural lighting, then getting wall sconces may be just the right choice.  These can be either very bright or nice and soft, depending on which ones you chose.  There are traditional style ones, antique style ones and more contemporary style ones to chose from.  Generally speaking, contemporary style ones are the most affordable.

Some wall sconces are made particularly for outdoors and look just great at patio lights.  Liz Jordan lighting makes some very nice antique style ones that would be sure to enhance any porch or patio’s decor.  Most of them are pretty pricey but the Antique Silver Coach Outdoor Wall Sconce is quite affordable at only $16 per light.  When getting patio wall lamps, however, also keep in mind the security aspect of your home.  It is important to have bright lighting installed either on the walls or ceiling as a deterrent to would be robbers or burglars.  If you would prefer to have something that gives off an amber colored, natural light on the patio, then that is fine but you should seriously consider having it in conjunction with brighter lighting and then turn on the right light for the right occasion.

If you can not find what you are looking for at a regular store then try looking online.  There are some online retailers that have a lot of variety and you may find something that is perfectly suited to your home that is not available at a nearby shop.  Another advantage to online shopping is that it is easier to compare prices as well.

Garden Lights

Garden lights come in many different styles. Some of the most popular lights used in gardens solar powered. Solar powered lights are great because they only come on when the sun goes down. They have their own switch which saves everyone the chore of remembering to turn them on and off. The variety of lights for gardens in endless.

Indoor gardens need a special kind of light to keep plants healthy and growing. Indoor garden lights open up the possibilities and allows for a dramatic increase in selection when planning out what you want to see in your garden. They allow you to set the light cycle so that you can grow many different flowers, fruits, and veggies. While florescent lights used to be the best for indoor gardens; they now have competition. High pressure sodium (HPS) lights and metal halide (MH) lights are now being sold across the nation. These types of indoor lighting provide plants with light that is as close to sun light as man can create.

These new lights, HPS & MH, are available in very high wattage amounts. They come in 250 watts, 400 watts, 600 watts, and 1000 watts. The 250 or 400 watt light system is much less expensive than a 600 or 1000 watt light. The higher the wattage the better the light for your garden and if you want to grow a good sized garden indoors the most important decision you’ll make is which lighting source you want to use.

Decorative lights are also popular in gardens. It is a nice feature and allows you to enjoy your garden at night. Torches are sometimes used to light the path and protect from mosquitoes at the same time. Short lights that are staked into the ground are a popular light style for pathways as well. These two stills of pathway lights allow you to expand your design because they leave room for other lighting like string lights around the garden. Encasing the garden in string lights is done by people when they want to establish boundaries or accent a certain plant.

Lighting can be expensive and you will want to do some planning before you go shopping for lights. They can range in prices from fifty dollars to over one hundred. If you want lights in your garden it is something that should be well planned out. You’ll want to decide where a light is going before you buy it and creating a floor plan allows you to place each light without having too many or not enough.

You can find many different styles of light to accentuate features in your garden. One nice way to highlight a special plant is to use a spot light that is set in a rock. A special rose bush or the blooming lilacs in May are commonly seen beauties that we all appreciate. Seeing the lilacs and bleeding hearts bloom in May lets people know spring has arrived. No matter what you have in your garden having lights adds to the overall enjoyment.

The Joy And Wonder Of Garden Lighting

When one begins to consider dressing up their property by the installation of garden lighting, the possibilities at hand are limited only by how far the imagination stretches. Whatever it is they would like to accomplish can be done with some careful consideration and planning, and the end results will continue to bring joy and satisfaction on a daily basis for as long as they are there. Add to this the reality that whatever the investment is that they extend in terms of material and labor, there is no question that the end result will add significant value to the property that will more then cover that cost and ultimately provide substantial profit should that situation arise. In all ways, it is a win-win proposition both today and down the road. Let’s look at some ideas and suggestions for thought and consideration.

Obviously, if the sole purpose intended is to dramatically cast bright light on the home, driveway or property with no other consideration, the use of floodlights placed in the proper places to do so will easily accomplish this. That is fairly simple and basic to conceive and install. Also, if the issue is primarily security oriented but one doesn’t wish to appear too overbearing and outstanding, the proper alternative could be from a wide variety of choices of motion sensor lighting that will  cast significant light on whoever or whatever enters the area they are set for. This could be an animal or a person. Obviously, those familiar with the situation will not be startled or taken back when the light appears, but anyone who might have misdeeds as their intention can and in almost all cases will withdraw and seek out a less frightening target. Both of these situations are fairly straightforward and relatively easy to install.

When someone however is primarily focused on setting a tone or a mood in the garden that will offer a feeling they wish to enjoy and share with others, is when other options are explored. If there is some sort of distinctive feature that they may wish to accentuate, such as a glorious old distinguished tree, perhaps some statues or artwork, possibly some attractive plantings or a gazebo type structure, they may wish to look at options such as well-placed uplights or downlights. These items strategically placed can showcase the target in a subtle but distinctive manner. Or if someone is interested in conveying a theme perhaps like a Caribbean based mellow one or a Japanese garden style, this can also be arranged primarily by researching and installing different types of ambient lighting that offer lower voltage and assorted color bulbs guaranteed to accomplish the goal. In any event, wherever possible the first consideration that should be explored is the potential of using one of the many styles of solar lighting available today, for obvious reasons. Among those are the simple facts that they are eco-friendly, certainly less expensive to operate and maintain, and a solid contribution to society today and tomorrow. As we said in the beginning, the possibilities are unlimited so those considering installing garden lighting should go out and enjoy.

Solar Lights – For Home Lighting Today, Tomorrow And Forever

If your commitment to preserving the environment is as strong as your desire to save big bucks on energy bills in the long-term, then the smartest thing to do is switch to solar lights for the primary lighting needs of your home. Recognizing the multiple advantages of this popular, environment and budget-friendly alternative over conventional lighting sources, an increasing number of homeowners are turning to solar-type lights.

Solar-powered lighting systems differ significantly from their older, conventional counterparts in that they have proved to be one of the most cost-effective home lighting solutions today. Traditional lighting sources, such as incandescent lights aren’t environment-friendly owing to the excessive heat generated with their continuing and widespread use in homes throughout the world. Moreover, unlike solar lighting, their installation requires expensive wiring, circuitry, and a myriad other fixtures such as bulbs that require frequent replacement over time. The use of incandescent and other forms of traditional lights also consume more energy, leading to higher energy bills.

Solar lights are ideal for different indoor and outdoor areas of your home, such the deck; patio; gazebo; garden; pool; walkways and driveway. However, as these lights are fully dependent on the sunlight their attached solar cells receive during the day, it is important to avoid installation of the lights in shaded locations, such as under trees or other protrusions that will restrict the supply of sunlight to the cell panels. This is why this unique lighting option is highly recommended for homes which are located in areas that receive maximum and uninterrupted sunlight all year round.

Solar light products are available in different configurations, sizes and designs. So, you may either choose a single or several solar light fixtures, depending on your particular needs, budget and the overall dimensions of your property. For an entire night, rather than a few hours of illumination, you may choose a solar battery that has a larger energy-storing capacity, as well as extra LED – light emitting diodes – the in-built sources of illumination. What’s more, you can go for options that come with built-in sensors that are designed to turn the lights on and off automatically as per the intensity of normal light available at different times.

Solar lights are available at all trusted, online home lighting stores which market extensive collections of these exclusive lights. Fortunately, many of these stores employ qualified solar lighting technicians for installation and maintenance of such systems at a nominal extra cost. Thankfully, these systems are quite durable and therefore require very little maintenance when compared to conventional lighting fixtures.

Switching to solar-powered, home lighting systems makes sound economic sense in the long term, but far more important than the money you save, is your commitment to a cleaner, greener and healthier environment for your family, the community at large… and you.
